A man hospitalized this morning (Tuesday) following a two-vehicle crash that occurred outside Chantilly Bible Church has now died, the Fairfax County Police Department announced.
The Fairfax County Fire and Rescue Department was dispatched to Pleasant Valley Road at Cub Run Road for the crash at around 8:38 a.m., according to scanner traffic.
“It’s going to be a pickup truck versus a sedan,” the dispatcher said. “One driver appears to be trapped, and one patient appears to be unconscious.”
According to the scanner, a door on the sedan had to be “popped” so first responders could extricate the trapped driver.
The driver of the 2001 Honda Accord was transported to a local hospital, where he was pronounced deceased, the FCPD said in a press release issued at 6:20 p.m. that identified him as 52-year-old Daniel Tsequi Mehari from Chantilly.
“Preliminarily, a 2001 Honda Accord was traveling southbound on Pleasant Valley Road when it crossed into the northbound lanes,” the FCPD said in the release. “The Honda Accord then struck a 2001 Ford F450 Super Duty truck that was traveling northbound.”
The Ford driver was also taken to a hospital with injuries described by police as non-life-threatening.
“Preliminarily, speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors,” the FCPD said. “Detectives are investigating the circumstances that contributed to the crash.”
Pleasant Valley Rd is closed in both directions at Cub Run Rd. Please use an alternate route. (2/2)

Elsewhere in the county, the eastbound lanes of I-66 were also closed near Fairfax County Parkway in Fair Lakes for an extended period during the morning rush hour due to a crash involving an overturned vehicle.
“I have one van on its side,” a responder from the FCFRD said of the crash, which occurred shortly before 9 a.m.
Two people in the overturned vehicle suffered injuries and were taken to the hospital, but in both cases, their condition was determined to be non-life-threatening, the Virginia State Police told FFXnow.
The incident was ultimately cleared and all lanes reopened by around 10 a.m., according to the Virginia Department of Transportation.
