Four pedestrians have been killed in crashes on Fairfax County roads within the past two days, bringing the total death toll for 2026 up to 10.

Fairfax County police officers responded at around 3:38 a.m. today (Friday) to Little River Turnpike at Southland Avenue in Lincolnia after an adult man was struck by the driver of an eastbound 2018 Honda Civic.

Eastbound Little River Turnpike was closed at the intersection as police investigated.

The pedestrian, 73-year-old Stephen Roberts of Alexandria, was declared dead at the scene of the crash, which occurred as he was crossing Little River Turnpike, according to the Fairfax County Police Department.

The Honda driver “continued a short distance before pulling into a nearby parking lot and calling 911,” the FCPD said in a press release issued at 7:45 p.m.

After locating the driver and detecting signs of alcohol-related impairment, officers turned over the investigation to the department’s Driving While Intoxicated Enforcement Squad.

“The driver, Claudio Medina Osorio, 19, of Alexandria, was arrested and transported to the Fairfax County Adult Detention Center, where he was charged with Driving While Intoxicated and is currently being held without bond,” the FCPD said.

“Speed remains under investigation as a factor in the crash,” police added.

The crash in Lincolnia followed two separate fatal pedestrian crashes that occurred last night — one on Gallows Road at Strawberry Lane near the Mosaic District in Merrifield and another on a Leesburg Pike (Route 7) service road in Seven Corners.

In the Seven Corners crash, Falls Church resident Sean King, 38, was walking on a sidewalk along the service road in the 6000 block of Leesburg Pike near Munson Hill Road when he was struck at around 6 p.m. by the driver of an eastbound 2008 Toyota Prius, according to the FCPD.

Police initially reported that a second pedestrian was also hit in the crash without experiencing any injuries, but it turned out that only one pedestrian was involved, an FCPD spokesperson confirmed to FFXnow.

King was transported to a hospital, where he was pronounced deceased.

“Preliminarily, detectives determined the vehicle left the roadway and struck the pedestrian for reasons that remain under investigation,” the FCPD said in an update released today at 7:15 p.m. “Speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors in the crash.”

The Merrifield crash also involved an adult male pedestrian who was died after being transported to a hospital, police said at 9:55 p.m. yesterday (Thursday). The driver remained at the scene of the crash.

Identified in an update as 68-year-old Jose Sorto Medrano from Annandale, the pedestrian is believed to have been crossing Gallows Road “outside of a crosswalk” when he was struck by a driver in a southbound 2022 BMW X5 at around 8:50 p.m., police said based on an initial investigation.

Sorto Medrano was taken to a hospital, where he was pronounced dead.

“Preliminarily, speed and alcohol do not appear to be factors for the driver,” the FCPD said in a press release. “Alcohol is believed to be a factor for the pedestrian.”

The FCPD is also still investigating yesterday morning’s Richmond Highway crash that killed 64-year-old Alexandria resident Jerry Harris of Alexandria. A preliminary investigation found that, around 1:43 a.m., Harris was struck first by the driver of a 2019 Nissan Rogue and then by a 2018 Toyota Rav4 driver at the Fort Hunt Road intersection in Huntington.

The 10 pedestrian deaths that have been reported so far this year matches the total for all of 2023, according to preliminary state data. There were 18 pedestrians killed in Fairfax County in 2024, six of them in September, and 14 in 2025.
